The observation floors: what’s at each level

Canton Tower has a tiered ticketing structure across its observation sections:

Sky View (floors 107–108, 433 metres): The main observation deck. Glass-walled indoor platform with a wraparound outdoor terrace accessible from inside. Reservations required and usually booked 2–4 weeks ahead on weekends. The food quality is adequate but not exceptional — this is an altitude restaurant.

Sky Drop and thrill rides (floors 167–168, 488 metres): The waist of the tower’s top section contains the Sky Drop (a rotating observation capsule that rises 15 metres while spinning) and two high-altitude walking tracks. These are add-on tickets to the standard observation deck:

Best time to visit

For views: October to December gives the clearest skies over Guangzhou. The Pearl River Delta haze peaks in summer (June–September) and can reduce visibility to 10–15 km on bad days. In winter (December–February), pollution from regional industry occasionally causes haze; check the Guangzhou Air Quality Index (AQI) before planning a visit primarily for views.

For photography: The tower reads best from the Pearl River waterfront (across on Tianhe side or along Haizhu promenade) in the late afternoon with the sun behind you. At night, the LED lighting sequence on the tower exterior is controlled; it changes colour-patterns from around 20:00. The tower is most photogenic from across the river, not from within.

For crowds: Weekday mornings (10:00–12:00) are the quietest. Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and the Golden Week holidays (first week of October), see queues of 30–60 minutes for the elevator. Getting to Canton Tower

By metro (recommended): Canton Tower is served directly by Line 3 (Guangfo Express/Line 3 Extension) and the APM automated people mover. Exit at Canton Tower Station (广州塔站). The tower entrance is a 3-minute walk from Exit B.

Line 3 connects Guangzhou South HSR Station (for high-speed rail from Hong Kong and Shenzhen) to the tower in about 30 minutes. From Guangzhou East Station, take Line 3 (about 25 minutes). From Tianhe central business district (Tiyuxilu Station area), the APM connects directly along the Pearl River waterfront in 5–7 minutes.

By taxi/Didi: The tower is easy to reach but the road circuit around it is complex. Ask the driver for 广州塔 (Canton Tower) or show the address on your phone. From Tianhe CBD: CNY 25–40, 10–15 minutes. From Baiyun Airport: CNY 80–120, 40–60 minutes.

Parking: Underground parking available but not recommended during weekends. The metro is faster and avoids the access road congestion.

The surrounding area: Pearl River waterfront

The tower sits on the north bank of an island in the Pearl River (Ersha Island is to the east, Haizhu District to the south). The waterfront promenade on both sides of the tower is developed for walking and cycling, with views back to the tower on one side and across to Tianhe’s skyline on the other.

The tower itself has only the overpriced Sky View café and the revolving restaurant, so most visitors eat elsewhere.
